Why watch A locked-room mystery on a floating city is a strong hook, and this one was shot with the cooperation of the French Navy, so the steel corridors and flight deck are the real thing. Six episodes make it a tidy weekend watch for anyone who likes procedurals with high stakes and a confined setting, in the vein of shipboard thrillers such as Vigil.
What to know
Le Charles was created by Henri Debeurme and Mathilde Arnaud, with Yoann Legave collaborating on the scripts, and all episodes are directed by Julien Despaux. Next Episode, part of the UGC group, produced it in partnership with the French Navy. The ensemble also includes Patrick Mille, Constance Labbé, Antoine Gouy and Bruno Sanches.
The series is the first co-acquisition between Prime Video and France’s M6 group. Prime Video released all six episodes, each about 52 minutes, on 23 October 2026, with a broadcast on M6 to follow. It is in French, and is presented as a single, self-contained season.
Where to start
At the beginning: this is a serialized mystery, and the first episode sets up the death, the disappearance and the chain-of-command tensions that drive everything after. Viewers who enjoy it should look next at the BBC submarine thriller Vigil.
