Corrections and sourcing
We would rather be right than first. This page explains where our facts come from, what to do when one is wrong, and how we handle images.
Where our facts come from
The Remote works from primary sources only. That means the people and organizations closest to the fact: the streamer’s own press site, the network’s media centre, the studio’s release, the festival’s programme, the regulator’s filing, the company’s investor page, the court record. When Netflix says a series arrives on 30 October, we say Netflix says so, and we link to the page where it said it.
Coverage in trade publications and news outlets is useful to us as a tip. It tells us where to look. It is not something we cite, and you will not see “according to reports” on this site. If a fact exists only in someone else’s reporting and we cannot confirm it at the source, we leave it out or hold the story until we can.
Listings in The Guide come from TVmaze and from the platforms. Facts about older films and the people who made them draw on open databases such as Wikidata, with our own summaries written on top. Where we are unsure, we say so.
Reviews and opinion
News and guide stories do not pass judgment on quality unless the judgment belongs to someone else and is attributed: an award, a festival jury, a published rating. Opinions about whether something is good appear only in The Verdict, our reviews, and only under the name of the person who watched.
How to report an error
Email theremote@loveseyland.com with “Correction” in the subject line, or use the correction form. Tell us the story, what you believe is wrong, and where we can check it. A link to the primary source helps a great deal. An editor reads every correction request and we aim to reply within two working days.
How corrections are marked
- Factual errors are fixed in the story, and a dated correction note is added at the bottom saying what changed. We do not quietly rewrite.
- Updates, where new information arrives after publication, are marked with a dated note that says what was added.
- Typos and formatting are fixed without a note, as long as the meaning does not change.
- Listings in The Guide refresh automatically from their sources and are not marked when they change.
Serious errors, the kind that change the point of a story, are also flagged in The Dispatch if the story ran there.
Images
The photographs on The Remote are production stills, posters and press photography supplied by studios, networks and streamers for editorial use, and we credit them as supplied. We do not use stock photography or generated photographs. Where no still fits, we use house illustration and credit it as such.
If you own the rights to an image on the site and believe it has been used without permission, or you are in a photograph and want it taken down, email theremote@loveseyland.com with “Image removal” in the subject line, a link to the page, and a description of the image and your interest in it. We will respond within two working days and will remove the image while we look into the request if the claim is credible.
Our own interests
Loveseyland Ltd., our publisher, is also a production company. Its own productions are not covered on The Remote unless the Editor-in-Chief says so plainly in the story. If you think we have missed a disclosure, tell us.
