Everything worth watching

Editorial standards

These are the rules The Remote works by. They are written for readers, not lawyers. If you think we have broken one, write to theremote@loveseyland.com.

Independence

The Remote is owned by Loveseyland Ltd. and answers to its readers. No streamer, network, studio, distributor or publicist decides what we cover, how we cover it, or what we leave out. Advertising on the site is served by Google and sits apart from editorial; advertisers have no influence over coverage and are not told what is coming.

No pay for coverage

We do not accept payment, gifts or favours in exchange for coverage, placement in The Guide or The Rerun, a spot in Tonight’s Pick, or a mention in The Dispatch. We do not publish sponsored content dressed as editorial. If a partnership ever appears on the site, it will be labelled as such on the page, and it will not be written by the editorial desk.

Screeners, press previews and festival accreditation are a normal part of covering this industry. Accepting them does not buy a kind word, and we say when a title was seen in advance.

Reviews

Reviews run under The Verdict and are written by named human critics only. The critic watched the title, wrote the review, and stands behind it. House bylines and AI tools never write reviews. News and guide stories report; they do not grade. Where a story cites a quality judgment, it is someone else’s and attributed: an award, a jury, a published rating.

Bylines

Most stories carry the name of the writer who produced them. Round-ups, weekly what-to-watch guides, new-on-streaming lists and other group efforts are bylined Editorial Team. That byline stands for the desk rather than a single reporter. Those stories are reported, checked and edited under the same rules as everything else, and are never reviews or opinion. Our Masthead lists the team.

How we use AI

We will say this plainly. The Remote is an AI-assisted, human-edited newsroom. AI tools help our writers research, organise and draft stories, and they do the data work behind The Guide, The Rerun and Ask the Remote. Every story is then checked against primary sources, edited and approved by a person before it is published. People decide what runs. People write every review. We never publish generated photographs, and we never present an AI-generated image as a photograph. House illustrations are made in-house and credited as illustration.

Ask the Remote is a rule-based tool that answers from our own data. It is not a chatbot and it does not invent. If it cannot answer, it says so and the question goes to an editor.

Sources

We cite primary sources only: platforms, networks, studios, festivals, regulators, companies and courts. Other outlets’ reporting is a tip, not a source. Every story links to where its facts came from. Our Corrections and sourcing page explains this in full and tells you how to report an error.

Affiliate links

At launch, The Remote uses no affiliate links. We do not earn a commission when you subscribe to a service, rent a film or buy a ticket through a link on this site. If that ever changes, affiliate links will be marked clearly on the page where they appear, the policy on this page will be updated, and the presence of a link will never affect what we recommend.

Conflicts

Loveseyland Ltd. also produces film and television. Its productions are not covered on The Remote unless the Editor-in-Chief says so plainly in the story. Writers do not cover projects they or their families have a stake in.

Corrections

When we get something wrong we fix it and say so, with a dated note at the bottom of the story. The full process is on our Corrections and sourcing page.
