About The Remote
The Remote is a guide to everything worth watching. It covers film, television and streaming for readers in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand, from a desk in Toronto.
Think of it as the TV Guide, brought back for the way people watch now. Fewer channels on paper, far more on screen, and a lot of nights lost to scrolling. The Remote exists to shorten that scroll: what is new, what is leaving, what is worth paying for, and what is happening in the business behind it all.
How we write
Consumer first, with a trade desk. Every story tries to answer two questions: what changed, and what should you watch, skip or know next. The voice is confident, specific and warm, with room for a little wit and no room for hype. News and guides report; judgments of quality appear only in reviews, and reviews carry the name of the person who watched.
Spelling follows the market a story is written for: Canadian by default, British on UK stories, Australian and New Zealand English on Pacific stories.
What you will find here
- The Guide: live listings for every channel in each of our five markets, with filters by region and time, linking to our own pages on the shows.
- The Rerun: our archive of the shows and films of the last 40 years, decade by decade, with our own summaries and a note on why each one is worth your time.
- Ask the Remote: a free, rule-based tool that answers plain questions from our own data. Where to watch, who is in it, what is on tonight, what is similar.
- Tonight’s Pick: one thing to watch this evening, chosen by the desk.
- The Dispatch: our newsletter. What to watch, what is leaving and what moved in the industry, in your inbox.
How it is made
The Remote is produced by Editor-in-Chief Andrew Lovesey and a team of human writers and editors. We use AI tools for research, drafting and the data work behind The Guide and The Rerun. Every story is written, checked and approved by a person before it is published, and reviews are written by named human critics only. Our editorial standards page explains this in more detail.
We work from primary sources: the platforms, networks, studios, festivals, regulators and companies themselves. Trade press and news coverage are tips to follow up, never sources to cite. See Corrections and sourcing for how that rule works and how to tell us when we get something wrong.
The photography on the site is production stills and press photography supplied by the networks, studios and streamers, credited to them. We never use stock images or generated photographs. Where no still fits, we use house illustration, clearly marked as such.
Reach the desk
Tips, press releases, screeners, corrections and questions all go to theremote@loveseyland.com. Readers, makers and publicists can also submit shows, films and projects for The Rerun and the desks. We read everything, though we cannot promise to run everything.
Part of the Loveseyland media universe
The Remote is published by Loveseyland Ltd., a Toronto studio that builds worlds and the companies inside them. Its sister publications are Not An Atlas, intelligence-led travel journalism, and prompt/power, independent AI and technology news. All three share the same newsroom model: human editors, AI-assisted research, primary sources. Read more about the Loveseyland media universe.
