Hamish Blake’s new Stan series gives Australian viewers a local reason to stay in this week, while the international platforms stack their releases on Friday 30 October: Apple TV‘s Nocturne, three Netflix originals and a Spanish zombie sequel on Prime Video. SBS On Demand has a crime series about a Montreal police sergeant, and Disney+ adds a mob-movie reality competition.

The lead pick: Unskilled Adult (Stan, Sunday 1 November)

Unskilled Adult premieres on Stan on Sunday 1 November with a double episode, Stan says, followed by two more on 8 November and then one a week across eight episodes. Blake plays “CEO” of a rotating team of underqualified friends from the entertainment industry who take on jobs they have no training for: welding a trailer, catering a wedding, drywalling a salami shed and sewing costumes for a community theatre. Each job’s client decides what the work is worth and whether to pay.

The Stan Original is created and produced by UA Productions, with Blake, Tim Bartley, Greg Sitch and Plum Stubbings among the executive producers, and Michael Healy and Adrian Swift executive producing for 9Network and Stan. Stan pitches it as a comedy about trying something new at any age.

SBS On Demand

Northern Traces is listed by SBS for 29 October on SBS On Demand. Nearing his 50th birthday, Montreal sergeant Guillaume Pelletier takes a break at an old friend’s cabin, only for a murder in the nearby rural town to draw him into an investigation alongside local detective sergeant Évelyne Dumoulin. SBS says the case turns when he finds the murder weapon.

Disney+

Disney+ in Australia adds The Mob on 26 October. Parker Posey hosts the reality competition, in which celebrities at an Italian villa take on jobs inspired by mob movies, with up to US$250,000 in cash prizes on the line and a chosen “don” deciding who stays, who gets paid and who is eliminated. Hulu, where the series originates in the US, describes the central question as whether the don can keep control or whether the family will overthrow them. Marvel Television’s VisionQuest continues on 28 October, the same day The Drop: A Snowfall Saga wraps its season, and The Lowdown season two continues on 29 October.

Apple TV

Nocturne debuts worldwide on Friday 30 October with two episodes, then weekly until 25 December. Liev Schreiber plays Jonah Lynn, a former soldier turned homicide detective in a small Pennsylvania town; Stephen Graham plays the serial killer Jurek Walter; and Zazie Beetz plays FBI agent Saga Bauer. Apple says the 10-part series adapts The Sandman by Lars Kepler.

Netflix

The One About Matthew Perry, a three-part documentary series from Emmy winner Mary Robertson, arrives on 27 October. Netflix says it is told by the people who knew Perry best and uses unreleased family photos and videos.

On Friday 30 October, Netflix lists three originals:

  • A Couple of Lies, a Swedish psychological thriller in which a couple swap their Stockholm archipelago home for a Sicilian villa, with Frida Gustavsson, Fares Fares, Emma Appleton and Jakob Oftebro.
  • Collision Course, a thriller from Daniel Sánchez Arévalo about a bank robbery in Madrid during an economic crisis.
  • Dead-End Job, a Korean mystery-horror series starring Lee Jae-wook as a young man in debt who takes part-time work from a mysterious agency.

Prime Video

Prime Video’s German-language romance Drive streams worldwide from 28 October, with Lisa-Marie Koroll as a mechanic posing as the fiancée of racing star Dante Annunziata (Amin Baahmed). Apocalypse Z: New World, the sequel set after an outbreak leaves the Canary Islands as Europe’s last refuge, follows on 30 October in more than 240 countries and territories, Amazon says.
