Andy Murray’s next television outing has nothing to do with tennis. Channel 4 has commissioned Our Scottish Hotel, a three-part observational series that follows Kim and Andy Murray through the most demanding year yet at Cromlix, the luxury hotel in Scotland they have spent more than a decade turning into one of the country’s best-known destinations.

The appeal is in the access. The series was filmed across almost a full year, with cameras following the couple and their 80-strong team through what Channel 4 describes as the hotel’s most ambitious chapter.

What the series covers

The story has a built-in clock. Work begins on a major new wing housing two new restaurants, and Cromlix has to stay open for guests while the builders are in. Then the hotel closes for five months so the heaviest phase of the work can go ahead. The series ends with Kim and Andy returning to find out whether a year of upheaval has produced the hotel they had in mind.

It is a sizeable bet. Channel 4 calls the project the couple’s biggest financial gamble since they bought Cromlix, and the redevelopment brings a new focus on fine dining and wellness.

Kim Murray, who is quoted in the announcement, says the two had never worked on anything together before, and calls Cromlix “a really thriving and much-loved Scottish business”. Andy Murray is not quoted.

Who made it

Our Scottish Hotel runs to three 60-minute episodes and is made by Rogan Scotland for Channel 4. Emily Shields commissioned it for the channel. Cailean Watt directs, Evie Greenstreet is shooting producer and Mark Hedgecoe is executive producer.

Emily Shields calls Cromlix “a fascinating world to step inside”. James Rogan, co-chief executive of Rogan Scotland, frames it as a workplace story as much as a celebrity one: “Cromlix is also the story of an extraordinary team.”

When it airs

Channel 4 has not yet given a transmission date or slot. The announcement places the series on Channel 4; The Remote will update this page when a date is confirmed.

It joins a busy run of Channel 4 news, after Channel 4’s move into Disney+ and Friends returning to the channel in January. For viewers drawn to the Scottish setting rather than the Murrays, the country’s screen pull is well established, from Outlander onwards, and a series built around a hotel that takes paying guests adds a working example to the list.
