Gogglebox
Households across the UK, from married couples and families to groups of friends, are filmed on their own sofas as they watch and react to the past week's television. The programme cuts between them so viewers see the same shows land very differently. Caroline Aherne narrated from the start until 2016; Craig Cash has narrated since.

Why watch Gogglebox is ostensibly about television but really about people: how families talk, tease and disagree in their living rooms. Its regulars are found through street casting rather than open applications, which keeps them natural, and viewers come to know them over years. It has won two BAFTAs and several National Television Awards. A warm, funny choice for anyone curious how the rest of the country watches.
What to know
Stephen Lambert, Tania Alexander and Tim Harcourt created the show at Studio Lambert, with Harcourt’s idea sparked by wondering what people said while watching news of the 2011 London riots. Alexander described the mix as part Harry Hill’s TV Burp, part The Royle Family, with real households. Channel 4 launched a four-episode first series on 7 March 2013, and the 28th series began on 4 September 2026.
Each household is filmed with two small remote-controlled cameras run from a temporary control room elsewhere in the home. Crews film across the week, and each episode is assembled in two days. It won the BAFTA for Reality and Constructed Factual in 2014 and 2022.
Spin-offs include Gogglesprogs with children, Vlogglebox on E4, Celebrity Gogglebox from 2019 and a Welsh-language version, Gogglebocs Cymru, for S4C.
