Patrick Stewart in X-Men: Days of Future Past
The 2014 film puts two Professor Xaviers on screen: Patrick Stewart as the older Charles in a dying future, and James McAvoy as his younger self in 1973. Stewart’s Xavier and Ian McKellen’s Magneto, allies at the end of the world, send Wolverine’s mind back in time to stop Mystique from killing Bolivar Trask, played by Peter Dinklage, whose Sentinels will hunt mutants to near extinction. The film’s most moving scene has the two Xaviers speak to each other across the years, with Stewart telling his younger self not to give up on hope. Bryan Singer directed, and the ending restores the older X-Men timeline.
