Prime Video took Blade Runner 2099 to New York Comic Con and came away with a new trailer, announced on 10 Oct and posted to its YouTube channel along with teaser key art. The series, a live-action sequel to Ridley Scott’s original film and to Blade Runner 2049, arrives with all eight episodes on Wednesday 25 Nov, exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories, according to Amazon MGM Studios.

The story so far
The new trailer follows the teaser Prime Video unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con in July. Amazon’s synopsis sets the series 50 years after Blade Runner 2049, in a Los Angeles that has been reborn, “just not by humanity.” Cora, a fugitive looking for one last escape, takes on a final identity as a Blade Runner. She is forced to partner with Olwen, a Replicant near the end of her life, to hunt down a runaway who holds a truth that could destabilize their fragile city.
Hunter Schafer plays Cora and Michelle Yeoh plays Olwen. Dimitri Abold and Lewis Gribben are also series regulars. The recurring guest cast, per Amazon, is Katelyn Rose Downey, Daniel Rigby, Johnny Harris, Amy Lennox, Sheila Atim, Matthew Needham, Tom Burke and Maurizio Lombardi.
Yeoh, Schafer, Abold, Gribben and Needham appeared on the NYCC panel, along with showrunner Silka Luisa and executive producers Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson.
Who is making it
Silka Luisa created the series and is its showrunner. Jonathan van Tulleken, whom Amazon credits with Shōgun, directed the first two episodes and is an executive producer. Scott, who directed the original film, is among the executive producers, alongside Kosove, Johnson, Michael Green, Isa Dick Hackett and others. The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Alcon Television Group, with Scott Free Productions part of the executive producer team.
Also from Prime Video at NYCC
On 9 Oct, Prime Video used its Comic Con panel to date Bloodaxe, the new Viking drama from Michael Hirst, creator of Vikings. All eight episodes of season one premiere on Wednesday 20 Jan 2027, in more than 240 countries and territories. Xavier Molyneux plays Erik Bloodaxe and Jessica Madsen plays his wife, Gunnhild, Mother of Kings, as they fight for the Norwegian throne in the 10th century. Amazon has already ordered a second season, which it says is in production in Ireland. A teaser trailer is out now.
How to catch up before 25 November
The series is set 50 years after Blade Runner 2049, so the two films are the natural homework. Amazon’s own guide to the series notes that Ridley Scott’s 1982 original, Blade Runner, and Denis Villeneuve’s 2017 sequel, Blade Runner 2049, are both available to rent or buy on Prime Video. Amazon describes the new show’s Los Angeles as a city now shaped by a non-human society, with Cora, a fugitive, posing as a Blade Runner alongside Olwen, a dying Replicant, to track a runaway whose knowledge could bring the city down.
Where the team’s earlier work streams
Silka Luisa, the creator and showrunner, previously adapted Lauren Beukes’s novel for Apple’s Shining Girls (2022), serving as writer, showrunner and executive producer. The thriller stars Elisabeth Moss as Kirby Mazrachi, a woman living in a constantly shifting reality after a brutal attack, opposite Wagner Moura, and streams on Apple TV.
Jonathan van Tulleken, who directs the first two episodes and is an executive producer, is credited by Amazon with Lucky and Shōgun. Hunter Schafer, who plays Cora, is best known as Jules Vaughn in HBO’s Euphoria, which streams on HBO Max in the US and, since the service’s 26 March launch there, in the UK, where Warner Bros. Discovery listed every season at launch.
The executive producer list on Amazon MGM Studios’ press page runs to more than a dozen names, including Ridley Scott, who directed the 1982 film, Michael Green, Isa Dick Hackett, Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson.
The rest of Prime Video’s autumn
Blade Runner 2099 sits on a Prime Video slate that also includes the third season of The Rings of Power and the return of The Terminal List. For the older roots of screen science fiction, our guide to the 1950s sci-fi boom starts at the beginning.
