Where the story picks up

HBO’s synopsis is short and pointed: “Bertha Russell changed Society at a cost.” The new season is about the bill coming due. According to HBO, the Russell family must reckon with the consequences of Bertha’s climb, while Agnes van Rhijn “seizes an opportunity to regain her position.” Marian forges a new path for herself, and Peggy works to be accepted by her future in-laws.

The tagline sets the tone: “In this new era, you must be careful what you wish for.”

For viewers catching up, that means Season 4 is less about getting through the door of New York Society and more about what each household does now that the order has shifted. Agnes on the offensive is the hook HBO is leading with.

The cast

HBO’s cast list is led by Carrie Coon, Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon, Morgan Spector, Louisa Jacobson and Denée Benton, with Taissa Farmiga, Harry Richardson and Blake Ritson.

Watching outside the US

HBO’s Sunday 1 November premiere is the American date. Elsewhere, The Gilded Age travels through a mix of HBO Max and local partners, and not every market had posted its season four plans when this story was filed.

  • UK. Sky says season four premieres on Sky Atlantic on Monday 2 November 2026, “in line with the US,” and will also stream on NOW. Sky’s listing also names HBO Max, which launched in the UK and Ireland on 26 March 2026 with Sky as a launch partner.
  • Canada. Crave has been the series’ Canadian home: Bell Media premiered season three there on Sunday 22 June 2025 at 9 p.m. ET. Bell Media had not announced a season four date at the time of writing. For how Crave’s plans work, see How to Watch HBO in Canada, Simply.
  • Australia. Despite HBO Max’s local arrival, covered in HBO Max in Australia, Explained, The Gilded Age has premiered in Australia on Paramount+. Paramount ANZ launched season one there in January 2022, season two on Sunday 14 January 2024 and season three on Monday 23 June 2025, each billed as exclusive to Paramount+. It had not published season four details at the time of writing.
  • New Zealand. HBO Max launched direct to consumer in New Zealand on 16 June 2026, and its New Zealand title page lists three seasons of the series. That page did not yet show a season four date.

Catching up on seasons one to three

Three seasons add up to 25 episodes, according to Sky’s listing: nine in season one and eight each in seasons two and three.

  • US: All three seasons stream on HBO Max, whose HBO Max title page now carries the line “Season 4 streaming November 1.”
  • Canada: Crave. Bell Media said seasons one and two were “available to stream now on Crave” when season three was commissioned, and season three premiered on the service.
  • UK: Sky lists all three seasons on Sky Atlantic, NOW and HBO Max.
  • Australia: Paramount+, where each of the first three seasons premiered.
  • New Zealand: HBO Max, which lists all three seasons.
