The bucket of blood was never the ending. Prime Video has renewed Carrie, Mike Flanagan’s series adaptation of Stephen King’s first novel, for a second season, Amazon confirmed on Thursday 22 October. The news lands barely two weeks after all eight episodes of the first season arrived on 7 October.

No production start, cast list or premiere window for season 2 has been announced. What the studio has said is that the story keeps going.
What Amazon, Flanagan and King said
Peter Friedlander, head of global television at Amazon MGM Studios, said in the renewal announcement that “Carrie is connecting with both longtime Stephen King fans and a new generation altogether.” He added that the series is drawing young adults and international viewers, especially women, which he said “speaks to the enduring power of this story,” and that the studio is “excited by where he and Stephen plan to take the story.”

Flanagan, who wrote the series, serves as showrunner and executive producer and directed four of the first season’s episodes, framed the renewal around the book’s most famous set piece. “For 50 years, audiences have known and gravitated to Carrie White’s story,” he said. “From the beginning, we imagined a story that goes far beyond the prom.” He also thanked King for his “trust and support in exploring what comes next.”
King, an executive producer on the series, kept it brief: “I can’t wait for audiences to get to see what’s down the road for Carrie White,” he said, adding that he and Flanagan “are excited about what comes next.”
Who is in it
The first season stars Summer H. Howell as Carrie White and Samantha Sloyan as her mother, Margaret White. Siena Agudong plays Sue Snell, Alison Thornton is Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette is Tommy Ross and Matthew Lillard plays Principal Grayle. Amber Midthunder, Josie Totah, Arthur Conti and Thalia Dudek round out the main cast, according to Amazon, with Kate Siegel, Rahul Kohli, Heather Graham and Michael Trucco among the recurring guests.
Amazon has not said which of those actors will return. Anyone who knows how King’s 1974 novel ends will see why that question matters, and the studio has offered only that the new chapter goes beyond the book’s best known night.
Why it matters
A second season turns Carrie from a one-off adaptation into an ongoing series, with King and Flanagan both on board to decide what happens to its central character next. The series is an Amazon MGM Studios production, and the quick renewal suggests the studio sees a franchise in it rather than a single Halloween event.
For viewers who have not started, the whole first season is available now, and the renewal means its ending is no longer the end.
