Why watch A Canadian drama that tells one of the country's hardest stories through a single family, moving between the day the children were apprehended and the adult search that follows. It was made with Indigenous creators and directors at its centre. Best for viewers who want serious, emotionally direct television about Canadian history, and for anyone who appreciated Unsettled or Bones of Crows.
What to know
Jennifer Podemski and Hannah Moscovitch created Little Bird, with Jeremy Podeswa as an executive producer. Episodes were directed by Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers and Zoe Hopkins. The limited series premiered on Crave and APTN lumi on 26 May 2023, and it was Crave’s first commissioned original drama series since the service rebranded from The Movie Network in 2018.
The supporting cast includes Joshua Odjick as Bezhig’s brother Niizh, Imajyn Cardinal as her sister Dora, Osawa Muskwa as her father Morris, Eric Schweig as her grandfather Asin and Michelle Thrush as her aunt Brigit.
Where to start
This is a single, closed story, so start at the first episode and watch in order. When the series is done, the companion documentary Coming Home: Wanna Icipus Kupi, released alongside the final episode on 30 June 2023, follows real survivors of the Sixties Scoop and gives the drama its factual ground.
