Our take
A broke punk band takes a last-minute gig at a remote neo-Nazi club in the Pacific Northwest, witnesses a murder backstage and is trapped in the green room while the club's owner decides what to do with them.
Why watch A lean, brutal siege thriller that runs on tension rather than spectacle, and one of the best genre films of its decade. Watch it to see Patrick Stewart play a villain with total control, and for one of Anton Yelchin's last great performances.
In memoriam: Sir Patrick Stewart, who played Darcy Banker, died on 28 October 2026, aged 86. Read our tribute to his career.
Patrick Stewart in Green Room
Patrick Stewart plays Darcy Banker, the soft-spoken owner of the club and the leader of the skinheads who run it, and he is frightening precisely because he never raises his voice. It was one of the most unexpected roles of his late career, a calm, methodical villain far from Picard or Professor Xavier. Jeremy Saulnier wrote and directed the film, which premiered at Cannes in 2015 and opened widely in 2016, with Anton Yelchin and Imogen Poots among the trapped.
