Darts goes live on Netflix on Friday. Beat Luke Littler, a live event on Netflix, puts amateur players against the world number one, one leg each, with £501,000 for anyone who wins. Netflix lists the start as 7pm in the UK and 3pm ET, and the clocks matter this week: Britain falls back to GMT on Sunday 25 October, while North America stays on daylight time until 1 November, so the gap is four hours rather than the usual five.
How the night works
Netflix describes the format as a single-leg live showdown. In its 22 October announcement, Netflix says 24 contestants aged 14 to 57 will compete for 20 spots, are split into groups and are then randomly selected to face Littler. The competition ends the moment somebody beats him. Each challenger gets one leg of 501, the “one night, one chance” format producer Workerbee, part of Banijay UK, set out when the show was announced on 27 July. Regional heats were held in Manchester and London in September, according to that announcement, and the event is made in partnership with the PDC.
Netflix’s listing gives a running time of three hours and 30 minutes. The prize converts to roughly US$667,000, by Netflix’s own figure.

The field, as Netflix describes it, includes schoolchildren from Wales and Scotland, a bin worker from Bedford, a Nando’s restaurant manager, a former British Army captain and an Australian jockey who has ridden in more than 7,500 races.
Who is in the room
Gary Lineker hosts. Richard Osman is the expert analyst, handling the numbers and live statistics, and he has already framed the odds in Netflix’s announcement: “He’s the greatest player in the world. But 20 legs in a row?” Presenter Angry Ginge, former professional Laura Turner and comedian Lee Mack are also on the bill; Netflix has not detailed their roles.
Littler himself arrives as the two-time defending PDC world champion. Netflix notes he became the sport’s youngest world champion at 17, has 28 PDC titles including 13 majors, and won the World Matchplay for a second straight year. “Everyone thinks they can beat me,” Littler says in the Netflix announcement. “Now they get a chance to prove it.”

Netflix has not said whether a replay will stay on the service.
Why it matters
Netflix’s live line-up already includes WWE wrestling and the NFL, and its guide to live events lists Beat Luke Littler alongside them, pitched as “everyday UK players against world No. 1 Luke Littler.” A British darts night built around one player is a different kind of bet from a stadium fixture, and it lands days after the company’s third-quarter results. For a sense of how Netflix packages sporting personalities, see Mike Tyson’s own telling of his story, and for everything else on the service this month, the rest of October’s UK arrivals.
