Career
A casting director spotted Haas in kindergarten, and after a debut in the nuclear drama Testament (1983) he was cast in Witness, where his wide-eyed performance opposite Harrison Ford drew strong notices. Childhood roles followed in Lady in White and Music Box, along with an Emmy nomination for playing Ryan White in the television film The Ryan White Story (1989), and he appeared in Waiting for Godot at Lincoln Center.
As an adult he became a reliable presence in ensemble films: Woody Allen’s Everyone Says I Love You, Gus Van Sant’s Last Days, the neo-noir Brick and Inception. He played astronaut Michael Collins in First Man (2018) and reunited with Chazelle for Babylon (2022). He was inducted into the Texas Film Hall of Fame in 2010.
