Donatas Banionis was a Soviet and Lithuanian stage and film actor and theatre director with more than 80 credited screen roles. He is best known for playing Kris Kelvin in Tarkovsky's Solaris. Working mainly in Russian-language films, he also took title roles abroad as Francisco Goya and Ludwig van Beethoven, while remaining a popular stage actor in Panevėžys.
