Career

Cooper trained at LAMDA, graduating in 2000, and made his stage debut at the National Theatre in 2001. He played Will Parry in the National’s His Dark Materials and was part of The History Boys from its first reading, touring it to Broadway, Sydney, Wellington and Hong Kong and appearing in the 2006 film. In 2008 came Mamma Mia! and The Duchess, then An Education (2009).

2011 was his busiest year: a dual role as Uday Hussein and his body double in The Devil’s Double, the photographer Milton H. Greene in My Week with Marilyn, and Howard Stark in Captain America: The First Avenger, a part he carried into the series Agent Carter. He played Ian Fleming in the miniseries Fleming, villains in Need for Speed and Dracula Untold, and appeared in Warcraft (2016) before Preacher. He returned to Sky in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018).
