Australian actress (1982-)

Abbie Cornish, born on 7 August 1982 in Lochinvar, New South Wales, is an Australian actress and rapper who grew up on a farm in the Hunter region. She won the AFI Award for Best Actress for Somersault (2004), played Fanny Brawne opposite Ben Whishaw's John Keats in Jane Campion's Bright Star, and moved into Hollywood with Limitless, Sucker Punch and RoboCop. She shared a Screen Actors Guild Award with the cast of Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and played Cathy Mueller in Prime Video's Jack Ryan.

Career

Cornish began modelling at 13 and won the Australian Film Institute’s Young Actor’s Award in 1999 for the ABC series Wildside. Her first feature was The Monkey’s Mask, and Somersault made her name, sweeping Australian best actress prizes. Candy, opposite Heath Ledger, followed, then international work in Ridley Scott’s A Good Year, Elizabeth: The Golden Age and Kimberly Peirce’s Stop-Loss. Bright Star (2009) brought her strongest notices.

Hollywood leads and supporting roles followed: Bradley Cooper’s girlfriend in Limitless (2011), the narrator and one of the heroines of Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch, Madonna’s W.E., Martin McDonagh’s Seven Psychopaths (2012) and Three Billboards (2017), and Clara Murphy in the RoboCop reboot (2014). She played Cathy Mueller opposite John Krasinski in the first and final seasons of Jack Ryan. Away from the screen she raps as Dusk and released her first EP, Key of the Sun, in 2021.
